Just drank my first glass of Sambazon Organic Acai Juice

Bottle of Organic Sambazon Acai JuiceToday, I was walking around Publix (it is a large grocery store chain mainly in Florida).  As I walked past the juice aisle, a bright purple and green bottle was staring me in the face.  This bottle was none other than the highly coveted acai berry juice made by Sambazon.  For someone like myself who promotes acai berry extracts, it’s embarrasing that I have never even tried the juice before.  Today was going to be that day.

I walked up the register with my 32 oz. Organic Original Blend Sambazon Acai Antioxidant Superfood Juice (at least this is what the name appears to be but they may just call it Original Blend) and paid the $7.49 to the cashier for this Sambazon bottle.  The price seemed steep for 4 servings per container, but hey you can’t put a price on your health.

As a little background, Sambazon is the company that started this whole acai berry craze.  To keep it brief, two guys went to Brazil in 1999 to go surfing and noticed the locals were eating bowls of this purple mush of berries.  The surfers loved the taste of this concoction of acai berries, they realized that acai berries would have a whole lot of appeal in America.  Eventually, the surfers, Ryan Black and Ed Nichols, founded Sambazon along with Ryan’s brother Jeremy Black.  The company worked with the Brazilians to spread acai outside of the Amazon and the rest was history.

A couple of things I noticed from the bottle: it says the bottle contains 575+ berries, 2X as many antioxidants as blueberries, and total omega 3-6-9 of 8520 mg.  Doesn’t sound too bad to me.

I drank a glass of the acai juice and I have to say it really does taste great.  Its texture is creamy with a nice berry taste that is not overpowering.  I somewhat notice that slight chocolate taste that people usually describe.  I’ve actually never tasted anything like it before, but overall its taste is way better than expected and I still have a nice berry aftertaste remaining.  I might not eat anything for the next few hours to see if it has any effect on my energy levels.  Anyways, I thought I would share my experience so you all don’t think I’m just some acai peddler on the net.
